Baseball vs Dayton Doubleheader
Xavier baseball split a pair of seven-inning outings on Friday at Hayden Field, falling 4-1 in game one, then bouncing back to even the series with a 5-1 win in game two.
Trevor Olson got the start in game one, striking out a career-high nine in 4.2 innings of work but the Flyers took a one run lead in the third and pushed it to a 4-0 advantage with a three run homer in the fifth. Xavier got a run back in the bottom of the frame on an RBI by Andrew Walker brining in Garrett Schultz, but were unable to pull any closer.
In game two, Nick Zwack made the start on the mound, going the full 7.0 innings, allowing just one run on seven hits, striking out eight without a walk. Xavier scored three in the first inning and added two more in the fourth to take a 5-0 lead into the fifth where the Flyers got a run back but were unable to get any closer, evening the series at 1-1 with a 5-1 Xavier win.
